Empathy 1 scaled

Person-centered care, with empathy.

By learning unique needs and preferences.

The Inspirit SAGE team is trained to get to know senior residents’ backgrounds, past experiences, and remaining strengths. This allows us to create a connection, stimulate cognition and offer support that feels respectful and familiar. Every Inspirit Memory Care community emphasizes autonomy and encourages choice whenever possible.

A supportive and safe environment.

Areas are predictable, with easy-to-navigate spaces.

Inspirit’s Memory Care units provide security, without losing a sense of freedom and familiarity. Visual cues and easy traffic patterns help residents navigate their way. The building is outfitted with a state of-the-art wander control system. Secured patio and gardens, plus stimulating activities tailored to residents’ abilities keep them engaged and combat feelings of isolation.

Sage Engagement scaled

Communication that inspires engagement.

Relationships between residents, staff, and families.

Memory loss can make communication challenging. Our caregivers use dementia-specific communication techniques of simple language and nonverbal cues. Patience and positive reinforcement are part of our practice to create a calm and understanding atmosphere. Families are valued, informed and contribute to their loved one’s care.

Transitions

Located within a dedicated section of the community, bridge programming is available providing care for seniors with early-stage through moderate dementia.

These active residents require reminders beyond what is offered in Assisted Living, but aren’t ready for a Memory Care environment. At times, they may feel isolated and lose self-esteem as they are “left out” of programming geared towards higher functioning residents in Assisted Living.

See below for some indications that TRANSITIONS may be the right specialty program.

  • At the heart of Inspirit’s SAGE concept is teaching our employees to see things as others see them and hear things as others hear them. In each community, our most qualified staff members form SAGE committees which meet regularly to nurture effective communication, leadership and to continually evolve and grow this program.

Specific learning modules educate our team with the medical, social and psychological knowledge base to better care for our residents. These modules include:

    • Sensory and dementia simulations
    • Introduction to Alzheimer’s and Dementia
    • Communications, Behavior, Nursing, Dining and Nutrition
    • Activities and Recreation
    • Physical Plant, Ethics, and Family Dynamics
    • Validation Therapy
    • Employee/Caregiver Stress Management
    • Customer Service

Residents with memory loss can easily become confused or disoriented by spaces that may be overly stimulating. A well-designed visual environment uses clear layouts, avoids excessive clutter, and incorporates contrasting colors to help residents navigate and recognize their surroundings. This reduces anxiety and promotes a sense of calm. Separate areas of Inspirit’s communities are dedicated to these needs. Our Memory Care units include:

  • Minimal restrictions and freedom of movement
  • Daily routines to minimize anxiety
  • Areas of privacy and socialization
  • Access to the outdoors
  • Activity Room
  • Easy traffic patterns and cues
  • Country kitchens
  • Small family groupings
  • Intimate dining

This program is for persons with early to moderate stage dementia, a step between residence in Independent Living or Assisted Living and the SAGE Memory Care program.

Some indications for this program include:

  • Early to moderate dementia
  • Forgetfulness-needing reminders, cues, redirection, possible elopement risk
  • Occasional incontinence, but can still toilet themselves
  • Lost sense of time
  • Unable to participate independently or with minimal assistance in Assisted Living programming
  • Ordering from the menu becomes difficult
  • No longer can self-direct with ADL’s (activities of daily living) including recognizing the need in changing soiled clothing
  • Not aware of safety risks
  • Socially inappropriate at times
